 Top 5 things students need to know about Jesus from the NT

What if you had to choose the top 5 New Testament passages that a student needs to understand to become a true disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ? Which passages you choose?

Here is my first pass at answering this question:
  1.          Revelation 22 – The end or final blue print of what Jesus is doing, recreation, the new heavens and the new earth…
  2.          Luke 1,2 – Jesus’ origins and OT roots, the miraculous birth, his God-man nature, His name
  3.          Romans 3:21-28 In our place condemned He stood, the Gospel, justification by faith, propitiation
  4.          Ephesians 4 – Life Together in Christ, the Church, Christ-centered community
  5.          Luke 11 or Matthew 6 Jesus’ teaching on prayer and trusting the Holy Spirit

    I'd like to suggest Ephesians 2:1-10. It has really helped me understand life before and after salvation, which occurs through receiving Jesus Christ. Also, it gives me hope for my future - that it is filled with good works that make a difference in this world.

    Next year, the GT ministry team will welcome Kate Allison as a college ministry intern through our partner church, ChristChurch Presbyterian. Kate is currently in Colorado serving on the staff of Young Life's Frontier Ranch. She kindly took a break from the mountains and the herds of high school students to share her thoughts. As you will see she offers a great proposal (her is her text from the email she sent me)


    Matthew 5-7 Sermon on the Mount- so much practical stuff to live by (or at least try). I realize these is three passages, but I just couldn’t choose. Matthew 5 is just such a beautiful explanation of how Jesus wants us to live in love, and shows us how to do it. Matthew 6 has been especially speaking to me lately because I’ve been so consumed with my earthly treasures and worried about my maintaining of my lifestyle, but the Lord has been so sweetly teaching me to come to him for rest and value my inheritance in heaven above all things.
    Gen 3 - Protoevangelion - The whole rest of the bible’s story way more sense with knowledge of this chapter(esp v 15).
    Ephesians 2 - Stresses the gospel and especially grace through faith. It took my reading this passage over and over again to fully understand that Grace is a GIFT, that is was nothing I did, and that I have a new life in Christ.
    Romans 8 – Displays how beautiful this truth is – that there is NO condemnation for those who are in Jesus Christ. Probably one of my favorite passages in the entire Bible. I love how it explains that even though we are free in Christ, we will still go through suffering, but that doesn’t even compare to the future glory that awaits us. That if our Father is for us, NO ONE can be against us. I absolutely love how it solidifies how nothing can separate us from the Father, that once we come to Him we are forever His and He forever ours , that in Him we are CONQUERERS through His love.
    Matthew 28 – The Resurrection , the love of Christ for us displayed on a cross. As new Christians have their sin revealed to them, they need to understand how incredible this sacrificial act of Jesus was and how the blood of Christ washed all of their sin away. And the Great Commission - People need to know that following Jesus isn’t just for us. We need go out and have a vision to show others who Jesus is.

    Trent, I like your list. I tried to put mine together without reading your list. I really like your list, I think mine is more basic but here it is:

    My top 5 would be:
    1. Jesus is God (John 10)
    2. We will be eternally separated from God unless we trust Christ (John 8:24)
    3. Jesus offers life and freedom (John 4 and 8:31-38)
    4. We can have a relationship with Christ (John 17:3)
    5. He desires our hearts, love, and worship, not our religion or deeds

Parkside People and Prayer

Parkside People and Prayer Initially, all good ministry is about a group of people praying to God to enable them to love and serve others in a specific way. This is really a good idea when you think about how much good you can accomplish apart from Jesus (nothing!!). Prayer is vital because it is both the means to what we called to and the end for which we called as well. So, here are a few pictures of the people of the Parkside project and some ways you can pray with us.
