The difference the resurrection makes - Sermon notes

Here are the exact notes I printed out for a recent sermon that I gave at my church. The audio and video recording of the sermon can be found on the church website. http://www.christchurchatlanta.org/ Sunday, April 11, 2010, Trent McEntyre – preached at ChristChurch Presbyterian Atlanta, GA Personal, light-hearted greeting Last week was Easter. We are going to be talking this morning about two important ways the resurrection can make a difference in our lives. Intro – church staff answer question When Paul Gardner asked me to teach this morning he asked me to do something as a follow up to Easter. So, this week at our church staff meeting I asked the church staff, the basic question of this message, what difference can the resurrection of Jesus Christ make in our lives? Sermon text - Psalm 31 - Loving the LORD

Psalm 31 Sermon 3rd draft The passage of scripture we are looking at this morning is a lament Psalm of David. David may have written it about the time he faced Goliath. David could have been talking about the time when he was on the run and hiding out from King Saul.   It might be a prayer that David prayed later in his life when his own son leads a rebellion to take David’s throne. From I kissed dating goodbye to I kissed my computer hard drive goodbye, many young people religious or irreligious, Christian or not, struggle with sexual issues. For some it is uncontrolled use of pornography, lack of self-control and respect in physical relationships. I am not going to give an apologetic for Christian morality – just speak on the issue of what help is there when our life is clearly not in control in the sexual area. I want to talk briefly about when we struggle with sexual integrity. God has good news for you if you are a struggling sin! Pray Read Romans 8:1-14 1.      You are no longer condemned for the penalty of sexual sin, because of Christ. “ T here is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.” Romans 8:1-2 "...
